2015

I started to notice some changes and evolving trends in 2015. First, the type of music I listened to continued the “conservative drift” that seemed to start asserting itself a handful of years ago. For that reason (primarily), the ambient/chill mix is pretty heavy this year. That’s not to say that all I’m listening to is “mellow” music (as I think the other mixes will show), but I’m clearly gravitating more towards that end of the spectrum. Age may be one reason for the shift, but I attribute it more to the fact that I’m writing more documentation for “humans” rather than “machines” (i.e., code) these days.

Another thing I noticed was that movie soundtracks and scores continued to be solid sources of ambient/chill music. I don’t think it was always this way (I’ve paid attention to – and bought – quite a few soundtracks and scores over the years), but in recent years it really has jumped out at me. So this year, as with last year, there are a number of movies represented in the Ambient/Chill mix.

Yet another trend I’ve really been enjoying has been the publishing of (video) game soundtracks along with the games themselves. Not only do games contain some really cool music, but I think it’s great that the folks *making* the music are getting some attention. And, of course, I have a couple/few games represented in the mixes this year.

Enjoy the mixes, and as always, I welcome any thoughts and feedback you have!
