2017 is behind us, and it was an “epic year” in so many different ways – some fantastic, some questionable, and some downright miserable. But the “epic” qualifier definitely sticks.
As with last year, I was running behind in getting these mixes assembled. The bottom kind of fell out of my year at the tail end of 2017, and I’m still trying to pick up the pieces and figure out which way is up. But the 2017 mixes are done, and I offer them here for your listening pleasure!
One notable trend this year is that mix lengths are up across the board. I think I’m finally over the “burnable CD baggage” I had wrangled with before; i.e., previously I felt some obligation to keep the mix lengths manageable for those listeners who still used CDs. Well folks, I’m sorry … but if you’re still reliant upon CDs, it’s time to make the bold move into this century. I can count the number of CDs I bought in 2017 on two hands. That’s not to say that I didn’t get any music – just that nearly all of it came in downloadable digital form.
A continuing trend for this year is that of the actual mixes surprising me once they’ve been assembled. Every year, I go into the process of putting these compilations together with certain thoughts on which mixes I think are going to be easy to put together, sound really good, etc. As with nearly every year in the past, I was surprised once again by what the final results look/sound like. But the mix(es) you like (or dislike) the most are probably going to depend on your listening preferences. Still, please drop me a line if you have thoughts and feelings on what you listened to, what you liked, what annoyed you, or anything else like that!
Enjoy the mixes, and as always, I welcome any thoughts and feedback you have!
Please note: I still have an Office 365 Bunker Tuneage tenant, but I’m dumping it at the end of this year because it no longer serves any useful purpose other than to consume $$$. You can certainly still email me; just use my mcdonough.online or bitstreamfoundry.com address instead of the bunkertuneage.com address (which is no longer monitored).
